Sherlock fans are already highly anticipating the new season of the globally successful TV show Sherlock. Unfortunately for the show’s fans, they will have to wait a bit longer before the show returns on TV as filming of the fourth three-episode series will still take place around April 2016. A new episode would probably be released in 2017.
But don’t worry. The creators of Sherlock have something in store for fans all over the world. Sherlock and friends are set to return on BBC One and into the big screen in a feature-length Christmas special set in Victorian London.
Sherlock: The Abominable Bride is a 90-minute episode highlighting the adventures of the crime-fighting duo Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman) as they try to solve yet another baffling case involving a ghost of a woman dressed in her old wedding gown that is prowling the streets.
But this is not your typical modern-day Sherlock though. This special episode is set in the Victorian era specifically in the year 1895 where the original books take place. You will get to see Holmes, Watson and the rest of the cast suited up in 19th century fashions. From Holmes’ old hairstyle to Watson’s big moustache, this Sherlock special will surely be as funny and exciting as the regular show.
New Year’s Day premiere
The much-loved TV series’ special episode will be airing on January 1, 2016. Both the Brits and the Americans will be able to watch the Christmas episode on the same day.
Given the popularity of the series, the producers have decided to give the one-off episode a theatrical release in over 500 cinemas in the UK alone. Theater audiences will not only get to see Sherlock in the big screen, but they will also be treated to a 20-minute exclusive additional footage including the making-of. Cinemas in the US and UK will open Sherlock: The Abominable Bride in January 5-6.
