By Ryan Braken | 16 December 2013 at 10:54 am CET | No Comments

GoDaddy is a platform that allows you to set up and run your websites in return for a fee. It registers various domains of clients and allows them to manage visitors and resources on the website by having a flexible system of growth as a feature of web hosting. By purchasing a web hosting plan, users can get a unique domain name system (DNS) for their website; this is the address used by people to access your website.

Why Should You Setup Your Domain on GoDaddy?

  • More than 12 million customers around the world
  • Economical option for those who want to start small
  • Automatic rescaling of your resources with growth
  • Offers the widest range of features for users
  • Offers the best customer support online

Steps for Domain Setup on GoDaddy Web Hosting

  • Visit the website of GoDaddy in order to get an itinerary of the plans it is selling for your specific country. The prices of each plan will be listed.
  • Select your plan; you have an option to choose from Economy, Deluxe and Ultimate. All of these vary in terms of their prices, number of websites allowed, email addresses, disk space and other technical features that you should research into if they interest you; for instance, the databases provided for collecting, organizing and processing the information on your website. It is obvious that plans with a higher price offer more features, but your selection should be based on the size of your business and your affordability.
  • Choose the platform you are currently using i.e. Linux or Windows.
  • The next step is to purchase the appropriate plan.
  • Go to and activate your account by selecting the option ‘My Account’ and entering your username and password. You can be asked for your customer number too.
  • Select the option that says Web Hosting
  • Choose the hosting account according to your preference; you will have the following options from which you can choose: Web (Hosting Control Panel), Linux (cPanel) and Windows (Plesk).
  • Select the Launch option to complete the activation.
  • Next you will have to click on Enter Domain button and type in the unique name of your website or choose a name from the list that is provided to you.
  • Type in your FTP username or pick one from those suggested.
  • After creating it, authenticate it through your password and your account is ready for use.
  • Further details will be emailed to you and your account will be functional within a day.
  • After your account has been successfully set up and made functional, you will have to transfer the files from your website to it.

Three Ways to Transfer Your Website Files

Upload your files using either FTP File Manager, Filezilla or a third party application. Depending on your choice of FTP client, you will have to make some configurations related to your Host Name (Hosting Account IP address), FTP Username, FTP Password, Website URL (, FTP Site URL ( and Start Directory (leave this blank but, if required by the client, enter your username preceded by a forward slash i.e. /username).

Use Adobe Dreamweaver for publishing your website, You will need to Define a Site, which will help Dreamweaver locate files for your website on your computer and will allow it to connect to the hosting account.

Transfer your files from your computer to your account. This will allow users to access your website easily. Chose the option that says New Site in Dreamweaver, type in the Site Name and choose your Local Site Folder.

Next Add New Server by clicking on the button Servers. Type in the following information:
Server Name, Connecting Using (Choose FTP), FTP Address, Username, Password, Website URL and Root Directory.
Open the Files window and choose the files or folders you need to publish and click Put File(s).

Use Apple iWeb for Uploading Websites

Determine the version of iWeb that you are currently using. You will need the generic information about your username, password and IP address.

Your website is ready for previewing

You can go to your hosting account and use the Preview DNS option in order to see what your website will look like to the users.

You will also have to check if you have a default file available; access your FTP client and ensure that the default file is listed in the top level of your web hosting account.

By now your site is ready for worldwide viewership. Whether your site is live or not depends on the configuration of your account. You can check your Domain Name to see if it is live or not. You can update your DNS in order to make your website live. Initially when you register, you get a temporary page on the parked name server for your website. After deciding which hosting provider to use, you can simply change your domain name’s name server to make your website live.
